August Campout: Canoeing at Chatfield

Come join us for a weekend full of canoeing, paddle boarding and camping at Chatfield State Park on 8/25 – 8/27.  We will be providing an opportunity for Canoeing & Cooking Merit Badges and Scout advancements.

Cost of event is approx $39 per person

Canoeing Class – Reservation required Space Limited!

If you’d like to attend the canoeing merit badge class please reserve your class attendance by emailing Mr. Jeff Martin (jeffmartin7@outlook.com) .  Class space is limited so signup early.

The class with be held on the smaller Chatfield Pond #1 which limits boating to non-motorized boats only.  Canoe equipment and PFDs (personal floating devices i.e. life jackets) will be provided but if you have your own, feel free to bring it with you.  Class attendees should print out the Canoeing Merit Badge worksheet prior to the trip and bring it with them on the trip, bring your Blue Cards as well.  Please review these requirements and look over the different boat and paddle types prior to class.

 

Paddle Board and Kayak

We will also have a paddle board & kayak for trying out.   All boating participants completion of a current BSA swimming test.  If you haven’t already taken this test this year email Jeff Martin for a makeup test.   No swim tests will be offered on this weekend trip.  Fishing is available too.  Note Colorado allows children under the age of 16 to fish without a license only if there is an adult present that has a current fishing license.  No fishing gear will be provided.

 

Cooking Merit Badge

Cooking Merit Badge opportunities are also available, please plan ahead accordingly to ensure you have all prerequisites completed and supplies available.

Tenderfoot, 2nd Class and 1st Class skills review

As always Tenderfoot, 2nd Class and 1st Class skills review is available.  Please see the last page of the Permission Slip for a list of personal items to bring with you.

Bring your Scout Book to get sign offs

Like at all Scouting activities, the scout will do LOTS of fun activities! Be sure to get credit for rank advancement or merit badges getting signatures as soon as possible!
