We have summer camp, Jamboree, and a canoeing campout in August coming up, so you know what that means!!
It’s time to complete the BSA Swim Test so you can participate in the aquatics activities. You are required to complete an annual swim test to participate in any water related Scout activities so even if you completed a test last spring you will need to complete another one this spring.
We will be completing swim tests on Wednesday May 24th from 6 pm to 7 pm at the Lilly Gulch pool in their three open swim lanes. The in-district fee (with district ID card) is $3.75 and the non-district fee is $5.25 for youths under 17. You’ll need to pay your own way at the front desk, we will not be charging Scout accounts for this.
If you plan on participating in an Scout aquatics activity this year you won’t want to miss this. We can try to schedule additional dates, however, that is contingent on having a BSA qualified aquatics instructor to record the test.
Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, and begin swimming. Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be swum continuously and include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating.
For the Scouts working on First Class Rank this swim tests qualifies for completing 6a. For Scouts working on Second Class Rank you can complete the beginning swimmers test (see below) for requirement 5b and then complete the swimmers test and get both out of the way!
BEGINNER SWIM TEST:
Jump feet first into water over your head in depth, level off and swim 25 feet on the surface, stop, turn sharply, resume swimming, then return to your starting place.
